Photo Assignment 2, Macro

During this assignment, I took pictures of things really close up. People see these objects everyday, but don't realize how different they look in a perspective that is so close up that it shows the precision of form and color. Depth of field also plays a role with macro, showing just how close you are. I took pictures of many different objects to demonstrate just how amazing the world is through macro photography.

Aperture: f/5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/40
ISO: 400

Summary: During this assignment, I learned a lot about macro photography. I didn't realize just how tricky it was to zoom down into great detail to capture an image that most people don't usually see. I really enjoyed this assignment and thought it was a lot of fun. Most of the macro examples did happen to be flowers, so added to the pictures of flowers I already took I had to find some new objects to take pictures of. You had to think outside of the box, but it was all worth the time and effort.

Reaction to Retouching

We see photos of perfect models everyday. Most girls want to be exactly like them. However, they don't realize that that is not how the girl they see really looks. That girl on the cover has been retouched to make her appearance even more stunning than her natural beauty. Personally, I don't like how there isn't a photo out there that hasn't been retouched or altered in some way. I don't mind a little bit of touch-ups, but major changes just change the girl whose picture is being taken. I wish that photographers would just let the model's natural beauty show, that way girls will see the photos and realize that they can be just like them. Here are a few videos/pictures that show examples of the differences between the before and after pictures of each model or subject:

Car Editing

For this assignment, I had to take a picture of a car and touch it up to make it look like a new, shiny car all by itself. This was the starting photo:

From this photo, we had to drag it into photoshop and crop it, duplicate it for a back-up copy, adjust the levels, remove certain gleams from lights with the clone tool, tint, and add a text box. This was the finishing photo:

Summary: This assignment was a little difficult for me. It was fun to touch up the car and make it look brand new, but the difficult part for me was remembering what buttons to press on the keyboard to make certain things zoom in out or zoom out. During this assignment, I learned how to make one picture look like a new picture. This is probably what most people do when they are shooting pictures for magazine covers to make the model's skin look perfect. Altogether, this was a fun editing assignment.

Pop Art

For this assignment, we learned how to take a photo in Photo Booth and turn it into a colorful Pop Art photo. We used Photo Shop on our desktop and followed the directions in the tutorial. Each and every step was listed, and we just had to follow what the step was and execute it to the picture.

Summary: I enjoyed this assignment a lot! I thought it was interesting to take a regular photo in Photo Booth and change it, adding colors, to make it look awesome. Following the directions was pretty easy except for one part. I had to go back a re-do it because I did the direction wrong. However, in the end it turned out awesome and I can't wait to do it again.

Photo Assignment 1, Animal

During this assignment I had to take creative photos of animals in their everyday lives. I had to take many photos of different animals, hoping to catch them at the right moment to produce a good photo. In order to take good photos, however, you need to put your thinking cap on and come up with ideas of how to put a dog, for example, in a position where they will do something that is picture worthy and different from other boring photos of a dog asleep.

Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter Speed: 1/13
ISO: 800

Summary: During this assignment I learned how to view what animals do in a completely new way. I thought it was a lot of fun and that my subjects were fun to work with. The photos of my dog went well, and I also thought the photos of my fish and frog went well as well. There were times where my dog wouldn't sit still or do what I wanted him to do, but I still managed and everything worked out okay. I enjoyed this assignment and thought it was a good category for a first assignment.

Photo #1 Inspiration

For photo #1 I decided to do animals. For this assignment I plan on taking creative pictures of my dog, my neighbors dog, our fish, our frog, or any other nature wildlife that I find in the woods behind my house. My dog is a golden retriever. I decided to do this for the first assignment because I love animals.

I hope to learn how to view animals differently in their everyday lives. To be able to take pictures at different perspectives would be awesome. I hope the inspiration pictures help me to achieve unique pictures of my furry friends and step into the life of an animal.

Composition

Assignment Description: For this assignment, we had to take notes on how to take pictures for rule of thirds, patterns, symmetry, texture, depth of field, lines, framing, perspective, space, balance, and color. Then we were to take our cameras, and go out and take what we thought were the best pictures for each category. We also had to create a photoshop account and a blogger account, this way we would have a place to safely upload our pictures and share them on a blog with the rest of the class so we can be graded on the pictures we took during class and outside of class.

Rule of Thirds = Flagpole and Building
Pattern = Back of Library Chair
Symmetry = Chairs
Texture = Wall
Depth of Field = Grass and Rock
Lines = Outside of Office Roof
Framing = Books
Perspective = Flagpole and Flag
Space = Chair and Wall
Balance = Stairwell
Color = Drinks in Vending Machine

Summary: During this project I learned how to use rule of thirds on the screen of the camera. For each technique we had to take a picture of, I learned how to come up with unique ways to take the picture. There are multiple classes, and everyone seems to be taking pictures of the same items. So, I had to come up with different ways to capture the same wanted result. I also learned how to work with symmetry, texture, depth of field, space, and balance. These were a little tough to get around school. Especially color. There isn't too much color in our school, so searching for a hint of color was a challenge. Over all, this assignment was a fun one! It had its difficult parts, but in the end the pictures were well worth it.
