Photo Assignment 7, Eyes

For this last photo assignment, I took pictures of eyes. I had to come up real close to the person I was taking a picture of, but I aimed for eyes with and without makeup, and also for eyes of different colors.

Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter Speed: 1/20
ISO: 400

During this assignment, I learned how to take pictures of eyes really close up. I also learned how to edit these photos and make the color and texture really pop. I enjoyed this assignment because my subjects were fun to work with and I thought it was a creative category for a last photo assignment.

Photo Assignment 6, Motion

During this assignment, I took pictures of my bother and my neighbors jumping into the pool in creative ways. Sometimes they are demonstrating cannonballs, sometimes a dive, and other times just a random jump in. I took some pictures of them in mid air, and other pictures of them hitting the water. I used a high shutter speed so I could freeze them in mid air.

Aperture: f/6.3
Shutter Speed: 1/500
ISO: 400

During this assignment, I learned how to time my photos with them jumping into the pool. It was a little frustrating at times because I would be a little early or a little late, but eventually I got the jest of it and it turned out good. I liked this category for picture taking and it was a lot of fun.

Pun

For this assignment, we had to use our heads to think of creative puns. Then, we would take images from Google, save them, and then drag them into Photoshop. Then, we had to edit all of the photos to create the pun that we intended for. We each had to do three puns.

Pun #1

Pun #2

Pun #3

During this assignment, I didn't learn to much because we already really know how to use the basics of photoshop. With this assignment, we really just had to think up some creative puns. I enjoyed this assignment and look forward to more photoshop assignments similar to this one.

Photoshop Tutorial

For this assignment, we had to go onto Youtube and search for Photoshop tutorials. Mr. O'Donnell wanted us to chose out assignment this time. I went and searched and found an interesting tutorial that lets you take a picture and wrap glow lines around the main point of the image (in my case, a classmate). I followed the directions step by step, watching what the guy did on his computer screen.

After:

This assignment was an awesome one! I learned how to take an average picture and make it look awesome. I liked following the guide step by step and I look forward to using this in the future. The link with the tutorial is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fsm14uE_gYc

Photo Assignment 5, Black and White

For this assignment, I went down to Curtis Park to take some cool pictures for the category black and white. I took photos normal, and then switched them over to the black and white setting in Photoshop. I took many pictures of the bridge, and many pictures of a small waterfall; both places seemed like good locations for a black and white photo.

Aperture: f/4
Shutter Speed: 1/800
ISO: 80

During this assignment, I learned how to take quality photos. I had to think ahead of time because they wouldn't be in regular color, they would be portrayed in black and white. I like this photo assignment, for I have always had a love for black and white photos.

Panormic

For this assignment, I went to five different locations to take a picture with a wide view. At each location we had to capture the wide view as a whole. So, I took no less that three pictures at each location, making sure to overlap each a little bit. Then when we would put them into the computer, they would all mesh together to create one large picture of the entire setting.

During this assignment I learned how to take several pictures to produce a wide setting. This was a difficult, yet simple assginment. Some of my pictures turned out, and others didnt. But I did learn how to use this and how to improve for future photos.

Photo Assignment 4, Food

For this assignment, I took pictures of food. Mother's Day was this past weekend, so making her breakfast in bed with delicious fruits helped with my assignment. I had to make the food look mouth-watering, so the pictures would be perfect. I took a lot of pictures of breakfast food, including a lot of fruits. However, I also spread to entrees and desserts.

Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter Speed: 1/25
ISO: 400

During this assignment, I learned how to "set up" the food to make it look as yummy as possible. It was a little difficult at times, but I really tried to get as many different colors as possible. This was a fun assignment, because after I made the food look delicious and took some pictures, I got to eat it! I've never really taken pictures of food before, so it was a new experience for me. However, I enjoyed it.

Portrait

For this assignment, I had to take two pictures. One of my subject in front of a plain white wall, and another of my subject sitting on a stool with studio lights. After taking many photos, my two best were put into Photoshop and edited to make them the same size with the same size frames around the photos. The end result was neat.

During this assignment, I learned how to frame photos in Photoshop. I thought it was fun and I am getting very good at working with layers and images. This assignment was a good learning experience and I really enjoyed it!

School Context Assignment

For this assignment, I took a picture of our school from an outside view. I pulled it into photoshop and thought of a theme for what I would do with the picture. I came up with a hawaiian theme. Then, I went into Google and got pictures that fit my theme. I pulled all of the pictures into Photoshop and played around with them, putting them into my main picture of the school to make it look like the pictures are actually there in real life.

During this assignment, I learned how to put pictures into Photoshop to make it look as if the photos are actually there in the main photo. It was difficult at times for me to remember what layer I was on in Photoshop, but compared to the last assignment that we had to do in Photoshop, this one was a lot easier for me. I enjoyed this because we got to pick our own themes and do whatever we want to do. I liked this assignment and learned a lot about Photoshop!

Photo Assignment 3, Nature/Landscape

For this assignment, I took pictures of the great outdoors. I took pictures of my backyard and of a swampy, marshy area on the outskirts of my neighborhood. I took some pictures with a wide view to capture the landscape of the setting, and I also took some pictures that are a little more up close to capture the feel of nature.

Aperture: f/11
Shutter Speed: 1/250
ISO: 100

During this assignment, I learned how to use the exposure settings on my camera to capture a good picture with the right amount of light for the picture to look good. I learned that the right time to take pictures of nature and primarily landscape is either in the early morning, or at sunset. I found out that taking a quality photo is harder than I had expected and it took many shots to finally get the perfect photo.

Photo Assignment 2, Macro

During this assignment, I took pictures of things really close up. People see these objects everyday, but don't realize how different they look in a perspective that is so close up that it shows the precision of form and color. Depth of field also plays a role with macro, showing just how close you are. I took pictures of many different objects to demonstrate just how amazing the world is through macro photography.

Aperture: f/5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/40
ISO: 400

Summary: During this assignment, I learned a lot about macro photography. I didn't realize just how tricky it was to zoom down into great detail to capture an image that most people don't usually see. I really enjoyed this assignment and thought it was a lot of fun. Most of the macro examples did happen to be flowers, so added to the pictures of flowers I already took I had to find some new objects to take pictures of. You had to think outside of the box, but it was all worth the time and effort.

Reaction to Retouching

We see photos of perfect models everyday. Most girls want to be exactly like them. However, they don't realize that that is not how the girl they see really looks. That girl on the cover has been retouched to make her appearance even more stunning than her natural beauty. Personally, I don't like how there isn't a photo out there that hasn't been retouched or altered in some way. I don't mind a little bit of touch-ups, but major changes just change the girl whose picture is being taken. I wish that photographers would just let the model's natural beauty show, that way girls will see the photos and realize that they can be just like them. Here are a few videos/pictures that show examples of the differences between the before and after pictures of each model or subject:

Car Editing

For this assignment, I had to take a picture of a car and touch it up to make it look like a new, shiny car all by itself. This was the starting photo:

From this photo, we had to drag it into photoshop and crop it, duplicate it for a back-up copy, adjust the levels, remove certain gleams from lights with the clone tool, tint, and add a text box. This was the finishing photo:

Summary: This assignment was a little difficult for me. It was fun to touch up the car and make it look brand new, but the difficult part for me was remembering what buttons to press on the keyboard to make certain things zoom in out or zoom out. During this assignment, I learned how to make one picture look like a new picture. This is probably what most people do when they are shooting pictures for magazine covers to make the model's skin look perfect. Altogether, this was a fun editing assignment.

Pop Art

For this assignment, we learned how to take a photo in Photo Booth and turn it into a colorful Pop Art photo. We used Photo Shop on our desktop and followed the directions in the tutorial. Each and every step was listed, and we just had to follow what the step was and execute it to the picture.

Summary: I enjoyed this assignment a lot! I thought it was interesting to take a regular photo in Photo Booth and change it, adding colors, to make it look awesome. Following the directions was pretty easy except for one part. I had to go back a re-do it because I did the direction wrong. However, in the end it turned out awesome and I can't wait to do it again.

Photo Assignment 1, Animal

During this assignment I had to take creative photos of animals in their everyday lives. I had to take many photos of different animals, hoping to catch them at the right moment to produce a good photo. In order to take good photos, however, you need to put your thinking cap on and come up with ideas of how to put a dog, for example, in a position where they will do something that is picture worthy and different from other boring photos of a dog asleep.

Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter Speed: 1/13
ISO: 800

Summary: During this assignment I learned how to view what animals do in a completely new way. I thought it was a lot of fun and that my subjects were fun to work with. The photos of my dog went well, and I also thought the photos of my fish and frog went well as well. There were times where my dog wouldn't sit still or do what I wanted him to do, but I still managed and everything worked out okay. I enjoyed this assignment and thought it was a good category for a first assignment.

Photo #1 Inspiration

For photo #1 I decided to do animals. For this assignment I plan on taking creative pictures of my dog, my neighbors dog, our fish, our frog, or any other nature wildlife that I find in the woods behind my house. My dog is a golden retriever. I decided to do this for the first assignment because I love animals.

I hope to learn how to view animals differently in their everyday lives. To be able to take pictures at different perspectives would be awesome. I hope the inspiration pictures help me to achieve unique pictures of my furry friends and step into the life of an animal.

Composition

Assignment Description: For this assignment, we had to take notes on how to take pictures for rule of thirds, patterns, symmetry, texture, depth of field, lines, framing, perspective, space, balance, and color. Then we were to take our cameras, and go out and take what we thought were the best pictures for each category. We also had to create a photoshop account and a blogger account, this way we would have a place to safely upload our pictures and share them on a blog with the rest of the class so we can be graded on the pictures we took during class and outside of class.

Rule of Thirds = Flagpole and Building
Pattern = Back of Library Chair
Symmetry = Chairs
Texture = Wall
Depth of Field = Grass and Rock
Lines = Outside of Office Roof
Framing = Books
Perspective = Flagpole and Flag
Space = Chair and Wall
Balance = Stairwell
Color = Drinks in Vending Machine

Summary: During this project I learned how to use rule of thirds on the screen of the camera. For each technique we had to take a picture of, I learned how to come up with unique ways to take the picture. There are multiple classes, and everyone seems to be taking pictures of the same items. So, I had to come up with different ways to capture the same wanted result. I also learned how to work with symmetry, texture, depth of field, space, and balance. These were a little tough to get around school. Especially color. There isn't too much color in our school, so searching for a hint of color was a challenge. Over all, this assignment was a fun one! It had its difficult parts, but in the end the pictures were well worth it.
